What is Massage Therapy?

Massage Therapy is the holistic application of physical touch to affect the systems of the body, including the muscular, skeletal, digestive, elimination, respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic, endocrine, and nervous systems.  It is the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body with the hands for therapeutic healing, restoration and relaxation.

Benefits of Massage Therapy
  • Increased work and athletic performance.
  • Increased physical vitality and immune function.
  • Decreased stress, anxiety and depression.
  • Increased relaxation, mental clarity and concentration.
  • Improved sleep and digestive function.
  • Increased mental clarity and concentration.
  • Enhances and supports other therapeutic modalities.

My client base includes pre/post natal, adolescents, chronic sitters (office and car), high stress jobs/lifestyles, people interested in wellness and lifestyle management.

What is Ashiatsu?

Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy® is a form of gravity assisted barefoot massage. The Registered Massage Therapist’s body weight and smooth feet are used to provide a relaxing deep tissue treatment.  The therapist holds bars secured to the ceiling as she balances her weight over the client to provide slow, fluid strokes to elongate the para-spinal muscles bringing comfort there.  The flowing movements also help the body’s lymphatic system release toxins and help lengthen chronically shortened muscles.

Benefits of Ashiatsu
  • Therapeutic deep tissue massage
  • Supports lymphatic drainage
  • Helps to elongate chronically shortened muscles, particularly on the back, legs and arms.
  • Deeply relaxing due to the pressure of the feet and the connection to their reflexive points.
  • Excellent for active people including athletes and weekend warriors because pressure and shape of foot helps to release muscles such as the gluteals and calves to increase performance and enhance training recovery time.
  • Back of hamstrings on clients who have sit in the same position for more than 6 hours with minimal movement (e.g. Deep Vein Thrombosis)
  • Recent injections of substances at joint or muscle junctures.

What is Yoga?

The word “yoga” in the original Sanskrit language means “union”. Yoga is an applied science of the mind and body that comes from the Hindu Vedic scriptures. Practicing and studying yoga helps to create an internal environment that allows people to come to their own natural state of well-being.

What is Yoga Therapy?

The primary goal of Yoga Therapy is to restore balance or to maintain and fortify the existing balance in your health. Yoga Therapy is the application of individually selected concepts, principles and techniques of yoga. These are appropriately modified to suit the person in order to bring about a specific therapeutic effect.

Healing Benefits of Yoga Therapy

Yoga Therapy has many of the same healing benefits as massage therapy. However, one of the fundamental differences is that it is a daily practice tailored to the unique needs of the individual. A therapeutic yoga practice can improve one’s overall health and self-awareness while reducing tension, enhancing vitality, and strengthening the body-mind connection. This is the basis for self-healing and a more balanced life. Integration of breath, body and mind through deliberate movements and breathing techniques encourages the release of stress to build equilibrium and restoration.

Teaching Style

My teaching style is influenced by the diversity of gifted teachers with whom I have studied along my yoga journey.  Fundamentally, I teach Hatha yoga in the Krishnamacharya lineage which includes Ashtanga-Inspired Vinyasa Flow, Restorative, Yin and Yoga Nidra.

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is the application of appropriate pressure to specific points and areas on the feet, hands, or ears. These areas and reflex points correspond to different body organs and systems, and that pressing them has a beneficial effect on the organs and person’s general health.  For example, working a small triangular area halfway down the outer edge of the foot can help to relieve tension and pain in the knee.

Reflexive points in soles of your feet

A foot reflexology session helps to break up deposits of toxic by-products such as lactic acid and uric acid crystals caused by ineffective elimination of metabolic by-products. Scar tissue, pooling of lymph fluid, corns and calluses can also create internal and external blockages that can cause both physical obstructions and interfere with the body’s natural flow of energy. A 60-minute foot reflexology session is effective in reducing stress. Quite simply, by putting your nervous system into the parasympathetic mode, the body is better able to re-balance itself through its self-healing potential.

As a Certified Foot Reflexologist with the Reflexology Association of Canada, I offer an all-encompassing treatment that sequentially affects all the systems of the body through the feet. Reflexology is an excellent modality to release tension and supports the body to normalize itself naturally. All sessions include a lower leg plus head, neck and shoulder massage.

Benefits of Reflexology
  • Relaxation and release of tension
  • Improved circulation
  • The natural normalization of the body itself.

What is Hot and Cold Stone massage therapy?

Basalt stones are most commonly used in Hot Stone Massage therapy, they’re formed downwind of a volcano, and smoothed over time in river beds, they are often a dark grey color but look black when used with oil. Darker stones tend to absorb and hold heat longer. Marble stones are often used for cold therapy as they retain cold longest and most effectively.

Hot Stone Therapy treatments use the effect of the heat from the stones for general relaxation and deep muscle release. Where indicated, cold stones are applied to contrast with the hot stones, greatly increasing the circulation, improving tissue recovery, and invigorating the entire body.

Hot and Cold Stone Therapy can be used together or separately.

Benefits of Hot Stone Therapy
  • Promotes increased well-being and vitality
  • Increases circulation
  • Improves lymphatic circulation
  • Decreases back/shoulder/neck pain, menstrual pain, joint pain, tension headaches, sciatic pain
  • Promotes grounding due to the natural magnetic field inherent in the stones
  • Reduces overall stress
Benefits of Cold Stone Therapy
  • Reduces any local swelling, inflammation or redness
  • Heals acute injuries
  • Decreases tension headaches
  • Reduces sinus congestion
  • Tones and stimulates the body

The Reiki Principles are an integral part of the Reiki system of healing. They were developed by Dr. Mikao Usui in order to integrate the Reiki healing system into daily life by cultivating mental/ emotional attitudes of positivity, honesty, gratitude, and integrity. The healing energy of Reiki flows during all my massage therapy and reflexology sessions. Treatments are available that include a combination of bodywork and Reiki hands-on healing.  Please check below for pricing.
